We have a guest blog post today from Stitched Up. We think they are a fantastic organisation, but I’ll let them tell you all about themselves…
So Chorlton has been so kind as to let us at Stitched Up write a guest post for you; we have been based in Chorlton since 2014. Don’t know what we do? Well, we are a non-profit sewing cooperative, tucked away at 527B Wilbraham Road- opposite North Star Deli (yum). We love the sense of community in Chorlton, and believe there is really something special about this place!
We believe in sustainable fashion, and teach upcycling, garment-making and mending workshops where you can come along and learn invaluable sewing skills. All the materials we use have been saved from landfill. Not only this, but we run fashion events, socials, film screenings and offer workshops at community events around Greater Manchester.
And now we are calling on all Chorlton’s crafty seniors to join us, as we have received funding from the Adactus Housing’s Neighbourhood Fund for a FREE social event for the 50+ residents of Manchester.
These socials are great opportunity to get together with like-minded people in your community and learn and swap skills in a fun and relaxing environment. The aim is to connect with the talented craftspeople of older generations by providing a creative space to sit back with a cup of tea and get to know each other while making things. Bring along your own craft projects – equipment like threads and scissors will be provided, along with Stitched Up’s support in the form of tips, hints and suggestions.
We know of many talented older craftspeople within our community who’ve been asking for an event like this, and we’re delighted to be able to offer one on a regular basis over several months so we can really grow and get to know the craft community in our local area. We can’t wait to see what the people of Chorlton craft in their own time!
’50+Crafternoons’ will be held on Wednesdays from August 5th until October from 12-4pm at Stitched Up’s new Head Quarters at 527B Wilbraham Road, M21 0UF. It is a drop in session, so crafters have the freedom to pop in for 30 minutes or stay the entire time. Our premises has a bus stop right outside, and a tram stop just fifty yards away.
